Clinton Portis Added To IR, May Be Last Time In The Burgundy and Gold

After a harrowing return to the football field in the Titans game Clinton Portis appeared to re injure his groin. Portis missed the previous 5 games with a torn groin muscle. Upon receiving a clean bill of health Portis was promptly a starter and helped jumpstart an offense that was blanked a week before by Philly.  After an MRI it was determined that Portis did not re injure his groin but tore an abdominal muscle directly above his previously injured groin, forcing Portis to again end his season early for the second year in a row.

Could this be the last time we see Clinton Portis in the burgundy and gold? Portis still has 3 years remaining on his contract, his salary for 2011 would be $8.25 million. Many speculate  that this could be the end for Portis as a Redskin. Remember the fabled Champ Bailey/ Clinton Portis trade? Shanahan was at the helm in Denver for that trade in which Portis was traded away. Now in some bizarre twist of fate Shanahan again  holds the power to make or break Clinton’s career. Mike Shanahan has had nothing but positive things to say about Portis since becoming Washington’s Head Coach. Many are expecting an overhaul in the offseason as Shanahan will continue to bring in  guys who better fit his offensive and defensive scheme. Will Portis become a victim of the roster purge or will Shanahan and gang give him another year? Portis is only 77 yards short of reaching 10,000 career rushing yards and and 648 yards short of passing John Riggins for most Redskin rushing yards.
